This private reference service is not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, arrange release, post a bond, or retrieve an official booking record. Contact the public office that holds the relevant record.
City-Jail and Police Records
For NYC DOC custody questions, begin with the official inmate lookup or DOC’s constituent contact. The city’s public contact information lists the Office of Constituent and Grievance Services at 75-20 Astoria Boulevard, East Elmhurst, NY 11370, 718-546-1500, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is a contact path, not a promise of photo release.
For an NYPD arrest-record request, use the Legal Bureau FOIL Unit: One Police Plaza, Room 110-A, New York, NY 10038, 646-610-5296. NYPD general contact is 646-610-5000. Use 911 for an emergency and 311 for ordinary city-service routing.
The New York City Sheriff’s Office is a civil-enforcement office, not the routine contact for an NYPD booking question: 66 John Street, 13th Floor, New York, NY 10038, 212-487-9734.
Where to Look First
Use the official channel that matches the record stage. The home hub explains the differences in detail.
- NYC DOC, NYPD, FOIL, court, and records paths for a Manhattan arrest question.
- Wanted Fugitives for official NYPD wanted notices and safety-framed tip information.
- DOCCS for state-prison custody rather than a fresh city arrest.
- BOP for federal custody, and ICE for its separate detention scope.
- New York Courts Find a Court for the proper court office and case route.
